| Care Abounds in Communities Projects for 2011 |
Once again Adams County PA Chapter of Thrivent Financial is making itself known throughout Adams County as we have approved money for fund raisers and hands on projects. The York Springs area has benefited through the Wednesday Nite Live project which brings youth and adults into a community arena and works on issues on unity. Food pantries have been supplied with bounty from programs like Souper Bowl of Caring, Pot pie suppers, and Colonial Day bake sales. The highly successful Women's Purse which funds a program for teens of foster homes entering the work and social arenas received money this year. Friends of the Littlestown Library held a fund raiser with the play "School House Rock" and was able to raise their annual goal. Vacation Bible schools throughout the county were assisted with funding to promote their communities' events. And we were able to assist the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village with funding for equipment throughout the facility. We were also able to aid the Lutheran Camping Corporation with the annual golf tournament (the scores are highly guarded to protect the guilty). Quilters throughout the county have been able to receive funds to assist with the many quilts that were presented at "Quilt the Campus" at the Seminary. The 7th graders of Adams County benefit from fund that helps the Young Teen Leadership Conference on October 11. And in the interest of education the local chapter has also helped to fund the STEM SAVVY program of the YWCA and Gettysburg Area School. We have also been able to help the Gettysburg Dollars for Scholars. Slated yet to be funded is the Holiday Outreach Program which benefits families and the aged and disabled of the county throughout the winter season. All these programs rely not just on funding from the chapter but also from the many volunteers who aid in bringing these projects to fruition.
