"Bethlehem Lutheran Church is a gathering of individuals joined together as God's people by the Holy Spirit, saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. We actively invite all people to worship in Word and Sacrament. As people with various gifts, we work in harmony to serve God, one another, our community, and the world around us."

| | Our Lay Caring Ministries |
| |
Five different Lay Caring Ministries have been planned for the members of Bethlehem to reach out and give to those who can benefit from our care and concern.
If you are interested in the work being done by any of these Ministries and would like to become involved, please contact the appropriate Ministry Coordinator.
Likewise, if you know of someone who could benefit from the gifts of each Ministry, please contact the Ministry Coordinator so that person's name can be given to the members of the Ministry.
The Lay Caring Ministry hopes that all Bethlehem members will read the descriptions of the five Ministries and prayerfully consider what gifts of their own they can offer to the Ministries, even if that gift is to be aware of the functions of each Ministry and provide the information they need to further their goals. Help the Ministries to make Bethlehem a church of "People Caring for People"!
| "Love one another As I have loved you." John 13:34

| Visitation Ministry Lay Caring Ministers have been assisting Pastor Kopka in visiting Bethlehem members who are not physically able to join us in worship but who desire to receive the sacrament of communion.

| Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 1 PM until 3 PM knitting the prayer shawls you may have seen displayed on the rack in the church narthex. These shawls have been given to individuals (men and women alike) who are sick, hospitalized, or have mobility impairments. Each shawl is accompanied by a card letting them know that they are loved by God and remembered in thought and prayer by the members of Bethlehem. Anyone interested in knitting (or learning to knit!) are welcome to join us.

| Greeting Card Ministry The Greeting Card Ministry sends cards to those who can't physically join us in worship and need our prayers, those who are sick, or have had accidents, those who have had a loved one who is sick or has died, and those who are in the military. The recipients need not be members of Bethlehem. It is particularly important in this Ministry that information about an individual needing a card be communicated quickly, so that a card can be sent in a timely manner. A phone call to the Coordinator at any time is welcome so that cards are received quickly by those who would benefit from their arrival.

| Transportation Ministry Snow, ice, heavy traffic, car in the shop, or don't drive? These are just some of the reasons that may prevent our friends at Bethlehem from participating in various church functions. The Transportation Ministry is for those who need a little assistance in getting to Bethlehem. Volunteer drivers from Bethlehem are needed to provide rides to Bethlehem church functions to those who make their requests known and that can be accommodated by the Ministry. If you have need of transportation to Bethlehem for a church function, please call the Coordinator and communicate your need. If you can serve as a volunteer driver, please contact the Coordinator of your willingness to provide a small amount of your time to provide this important service. There are some forms that both volunteer drivers and participants (those being provided transportation) will need to sign for insurance purposes.

| Prayer Ministry In every worship service, during the Prayers of Intercession, we pray silently or aloud for a list of people. The names are printed in the bulletin. There are other times, outside of worship, when a Bethlehem member desires prayers for an individual they know (or themselves) to be lifted up to God by a number of caring congregation members. The Prayer Ministry is formed to provide that source of concern and corporate prayer by creating a telephone prayer chain. The chain will "branch out" in twos - the Coordinator will be informed of someone who needs our prayers. She will then call two identified people on the prayer chain list, who will each then call the two people assigned to them on the prayer chain list, etc. The list will be as long as the number of praying volunteers that the Ministry has. This Ministry is in great need of volunteers willing to commit to making two phone calls to help build a body of prayers. Please let the Coordinator know if you are willing to be involved in this important walk of faith. The list will be developed and the process given to you. As that is completed, the congregation will be informed that requests for prayers are ready to be received.
