Apply for Funding

Care Abounds in Communities
Through the Care Abounds in Communities® chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans provides funding for members participating in community service teams. These
teams are formed to conduct fund-raising activities and/or hands-on service activities.
Activities can benefit individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt
from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, excluding
congregations. (This includes charitable, educational and religious organizations, excluding
congregations.) Activity requests for funding are directed to the chapter leadership board.

1. A church cannot be the beneficiary of the Care Abounds in Communities program.

2. There is a cap of $2,400 on the amount funded per organization per year.

5. Camps may be directly supported, but not church fundraisers for camp.

6. Mission trips outside the Central Minneapolis area will not be considered.

7. Involvement of volunteers (from at least 6 member households) is required.

8. We require at least one of the following on funding applications: chapter volunteers, chapter beneficiary, or activity location within the chapter area.

9. Annual deadline for accepting requests is December 15th.

Revised January 2011

Application Submission and Review Process
Our chapter board currently meets to review funding requests on the third Tuesday of
each month (except August). Applications should be sent to the Community Service Team
Director by no later than the second Tuesday of the month to be collected and distributed
to board members prior to the monthly meeting.

Applications for Care Abounds in Communities funding must be received and approved before
the planned activity takes place. No post-event approvals are allowed. You may submit an
application for your event as early in the calendar year as you like. Early application is
recommended because funds are typically exhausted well before the end of the year.
