OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH GIVE TEACHER $500One of the new teachers in the school system will have $500 to be used to purchase
additional supplies and materials for her classroom. This was made possible due to the
generosity of the people attending the Heritage Sunday celebration at Our Savior Lutheran
Church on Sunday, October 23, 2011.
About 50 people gathered at the church for a special worship service, catered meal
and program to celebrate the history of the congregation. Interim pastor, Donald Legacie,
encouraged the people to “remember the past but to also look forward to the future with
hope and excitement.”
The meal was catered by Southern Accents and payed for by a donation from
Thrivent for Lutherans.
During the program, the people were asked to complete a Church History Questionaire.
Cindy Edwards commented that “most of this history happened before I was born.”
Fred Surber and Dave Peters won prizes for answering the most questions correctly.
Bill Coates, Bernadette Brumit, and others shared interesting
stories about their mission trips to Tijuana, Mexico.
Church leaders had decided to take a special offering on Heritage Sunday to help a
new teacher with funds to purchase additional school supplies because the economy has
reduced the availability of funds to the school system, the teacher was using some of her own
money to purchase supplies, and this teacher has a connection to our congregation.
Pastor Don commented, “Hopefully this gift will make it a little easier for one new
teacher and a little better for the students in her classroom.”
