Notes from the Pastor's Desk |
FarewellGoodbyes are never easy. As I move back to South Carolina & my children & grandchildren, I look back upon seven years of growth for all of us—spiritually & otherwise. I will always remember the good friends & fellow disciples at Christ Lutheran who have persevered in the Mission despite obstacles & distractions. I will remember the many lives that we have impacted in a very positive way...Those who finally found a faith home after many years of frustration...Those who have found support in times of extreme distress in their lives...Those who have asked the hard questions that lead to deeper faith. I will remember the shared joys & sorrows of...Introducing young & old alike to the family of God through Baptism...Saying “Farewell to some of God’s “good & faithful servants” as we laid them to their final rest...Counseling those about to be married & then watching as their relationship grew in God...Greeting, loving, & sending on to new opportunities scores of military personnel & their families...Praying for some of those personnel during deployments in hostile environments. We have shared together a common faith in a God who has always been with us—in the midst of the laughter & of the tears. And that shared faith will not die, no matter the geographic distance between us. I thank you for your support over these seven years—even when you didn’t fully agree with me! And I pray that this same faith & support will be there for your next pastoral leader, as each & every one of you continues to Feed the World with God’s Love at Christ Lutheran!

FEEDING THE WORLD WITH GOD'S LOVE |

Bright eyes, smiling faces & heart-felt “Thank You”s have been the responses from the firefighters & teachers who have been touched by God’s love through your ministries at Christ Lutheran.
The first week in August, we treated the teachers at Prattville Primary AND Prattville Kindergarten schools to cookies, brownies, cupcakes, & more as they were preparing themselves & their classrooms for students.
On August 21st, CLC provided potato salad, two entrees, drinks & three desserts to the half-dozen firefighters on duty at Prattville Station #2 on Fourth Street. These public servants could not thank you enough!
And the Feeding continues. This month, we will provide dinner for the seven-person crew at Station #3, behind Walmart on McQueen Smith Blvd on Sunday, September 18th. Please step forward to help Feed these Firefighters!

A New Sunday School Year |
|
School bells are ringing at Christ as well as in the community. The new Sunday School year began on August 21st here at CLC. Deb Fultz is again spearheading the children’s Sunday School, with a lot of assistance from Sally Camire, Lisa Lomeli & Jacki McNeilly (when she’s home from college).
The Adult class has begun delving into the New Testament portion of The Greatest Story. This group is in need of someone to lead the conversation each week.

Ladies' Quilting & Fellowship |

Ladies, are you looking for a way to make a difference in someone’s life! Then come to Christ Lutheran on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays in September (the 10th & 24th) and join in the fun of creating Comfort Quilts for local cancer patients.
No experience in quilting or sewing is needed. If you can measure or cut, you can help! And besides, the fellowship is outstanding.
The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. & continues throughout the morning & early afternoon. Come for an hour or two or for the full time; but COME!

LET'S GO TO EN FUEGO! |

En Fuego is a free Christian music festival held annually on the rolling hills outside Verbena AL. This year’s festival includes a variety of musical styles from rap to heavy metal to alternative rock, with the David Crowder Band, Sanctus Real, the Sidewalk Prophets, LP, Luminate, Sent by Ravens, & more.
The gates open at 11 AM on Saturday, August 27, with music going from noon until about 9 PM. We will meet at Christ Lutheran at 11 to carpool to the site. Participants are encouraged to being cash (for food, drinks, & souvenirs), sun protection, & a chair or blanket.
If you plan to attend, please let Pastor Mason know as soon as possible.
