Garber Hall Resolution
When Bethlehem Lutheran Church relocated to its present location in 1971 the chairman of the Building Committee was O.J. Garber. In recognition of his efforts the congregation presented him with a plaque, giving thanks to God for his leadership in that endeavor. This citation noted how “It has been said that when God needs a hand He picks a man. Therefore we thank God for Mr. Garber and express to him our appreciation by bestowing on him the title of ‘God’s Handy Man’ and present this proof of our love and gratitude for all he has done to make this day of dedication possible.”

On August 21, Bethlehem celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the dedication of our worship facility, giving thanks for all those who have participated in the various projects of construction that over the years have added to this building. Scripture teaches us to remember with thanksgiving those who have gone in faith before us, reminding us that “their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13] With that in mind we, the members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, honor the memory of O.J. Garber and his commitment to ministry by naming the fellowship hall in the original building “Garber Hall.”
WITNESS, MERCY, LIFE TOGETHER.
The posters on the narthex wall illustrate the themes our new Synod President, Pastor Matthew Harrison, has developed to focus the ministry of our LCMS under his administration. These Words from Scripture along with the symbols illustrate how the Church lives and works together to proclaim the Gospel and to provide for our brothers and sisters in Christ in our congregations, communities and throughout the world.

Our Resident Artist
As you tour the new addition, you will see some paintings David Byrd has painted for our church. In the kitchen you will find “ Christ Feeds the 5000” based on the scripture John 6:14. As you proceed through to the classrooms you will find paintings depicting the “Crucifixion” and of the “Ascension of Jesus”. There are also two Luther paintings, one located in the library of Martin Luther, during his years as an Augustian Monk, and the newest painting of the “Diet of Worms” (pronounced “Deet of Vorms”), found in the new foyer, tells the story of Luther in 1521 declaring “ Here I stand! I cannot do otherwise. God help me! Amen.” Where Martin Luther made a stand for Grace Alone, Faith Alone and Scripture Alone. And finally in the Narthex you will see a painting of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
The LCMS Cross
In the foyer of the New Addition you will find the LCMS logo Cross has been inlayed into the tile, the idea brought to life by Devin Jackson and the tile work conducted by Richard of Lightfoot Carpet One here in Palestine.
Did You Notice??
The new signs at the driveway as you leave announce, “You are now entering the mission field.” It is a reminder that, strengthened and empowered by Christ’s Word and Sacrament, we are sent out to be our Lord’s witnesses and workers.
