Beautiful Savior Lutheran Preschool |
The Preschool is a great setting for children who are three and four years old. The classroom and playground are designed for young children. The equipment is at a child's level and the room is colorful and clean. The site is bright and well cared for.
The Preschool board members and Preschool staff know that the early years are critical for laying the foundation for success in years to come. Our curriculum is filled with interactive learning experiences that are designed to advance a child's development and prepare them for kindergarten. We meet and exceed the Washington State Early Learning Development Guidelines which align with the Common Core standards.
The Preschool staff brings out the best in the children as they learn through play and grow developmentally. The children love being at Preschool because it is a happy place!
Our Mission
It is our purpose to provide a developmentally appropriate environment where young children can gather and grow in Christian nurture and education during their preschool years.
Our Philosophy
We believe each child deserves to be treated as a "Child of God!" Therefore, Beautiful Savior's Preschool program is Christ-centered, showing God's love and guidance in all areas of Christian living. The program is flexible and varied, allowing individuals to play and work at their own pace and ability.

The Preschool Day |
|
|
The children follow a balanced daily schedule of planned lessons and play which develop social skills, small and large muscle coordination and discovery of God's big wonderful world. Small group activities meet individual needs, and large group time encourages social interaction and cooperation. Learning centers encourage skills which lay the foundation for future reading interests and academic development. | |

Discipline |
|
|
The word, discipline, comes from 'disciple' - or following the teachings of another. The origin in Latin means developing self-control. So the goal in the preschool classroom is to foster those beginnings of learning right from wrong, of reinforcing the Golden Rule through language and behavior and of the knowledge we are individuals deserving to be treated with respect and dignity. Learning to express emotions and to acquire the complex behaviors required in our society involves a struggle to balance personal needs, autonomy and the rights and safety of others. Children will try a variety of behaviors as they attempt to recognize effective, acceptable and appropriate solutions to situations. Skills to be devleped through the creation of a deveolpmentally appropriate environment with a variety of safe and acceptable choices are: 1) I am lovable. (God, parents, teachers, friends love me.) 2) I am capable. 3) I am needed. 4) I can influence what happens to me. 5) I am beginning to understand my emotions. 6) I can work with others - through cooperation and problem solving. 7) I am developing an understanding of responsibility, or limits and consequences. We believe discipline should not humiliate a child or in any way damage self-esteem. We will: 1) set reasonable and consistent limits, 2) encourage problem solving, 3) state directions in a positive form, 4) respect a child's right to 'negative' emotions and 5) select 'logical' consequences for misbehavior if necessary - always in a respectful and resonable manner. Guidance and redirection will be done in an age-appropriate way, allowing for individual differences. Corporal punishment will not be used! And always remembering the goal of 'discipline' is 'self-discipline' - this does not happen at 2 or 3 or 4 - but it begins here! |
