For Our Children

They are so beautiful, Lord, the children You have given us— and they are fragile and vulnerable. Children are up against so many things these days—evil influences, drugs, insecurity, and problems that it seems I never had to face. Be with them in a special way. Let them know how much You love them—and how much we love them, too. May they find such great joy in knowing You and in being with Your people that they will never stray far from Your side. Forgive us our inadequacies and help us be good examples of Your love. Keep our family strong in You. In Your name we pray. Amen.

Crisis

We pray to You, almighty God, in this time of crisis. You are our refuge and our strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Do not let us fail in the face of these events. Uphold us with Your love and give us the strength we need. Help us in our confusion and guide our actions. Heal the hurt, console the bereaved and afflicted, protect the innocent and helpless and deliver any who are still in peril; for the sake of Your great mercy, in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Crisis

Help us, O Lord, when we must pass through times of testing, when it seems no news is good news, break into our lives with your Love, enable us to hear you speaking to our souls. Enable us to see, in all circumstances, your faithfulness, your presence and your peace. Hear us, O Lord. Amen

Decision to make

Jesus, I’m confused. I have to make a decision and don’t know what to do. I need your help and wisdom. I know You have a plan for my life. I want to follow that plan even in the little decisions I make. But today I just don’t know which way to go. Please show me Your will for this issue. I really want to do what will please and honor You. Somehow close the doors to the paths You don’t want me to follow, and help me see which door You have left open for me. Then give me the courage to move ahead in the direction You have opened up. Let Your wonderful peace wash over my heart and mind to assure me that I have chosen the path You wanted me to take. I want You to be honored Lord Jesus, in all that I do. I pray this prayer in Your precious name. Amen

Enemies

O God, the Lord of all, Your Son commanded us to love our enemies and to pray for them. Lead us from prejudice to truth; deliver us from hatred, cruelty and revenge; and enable us to stand before you, reconciled through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

Family

O Lord, I thank You for my family. You have created our lives and intentionally brought us together to live in our home. It is within the family relationship that we learn how to share Your gifts of love, forgiveness and mercy. It is here, in our home, that we learn to be patient, as You are patient; compassionate, as You are compassionate; and caring, as You care for us. Bless our relationships that we may serve You here in our home and when we go out into Your world. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen

House/Home

Lord, guard our door from all evil that attempts to trespass. Please make your angels present, when in and out, our family passes.
May these floors be ground that we walk by faith, to step loyally in the steps of your son Jesus Christ.
Through our windows the glory of Your light shines.
Peace and harmony reign in our hearts with these walls built to unite and protect us from drifting apart.
It’s by Your grace, Your mercy, Your Spirit, that we are kept safe in this home made from your blessings.
As we dwell in the love you have bestowed upon us, God Bless our home.

Life

Lord God, You have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

For the Lost

Lord, our Shepherd and Guardian, bring those who are lost into Your fold. Grant that we may be Your words and Your feet to share the Gospel truth with those who do not know You as the way, the truth, and the life. The world is filled with many who lead the lost even farther away. Send Your Holy Spirit into the hearts of the lost, that they may hear about and trust in Your grace. We ask this in Your precious name. Amen.

New Day

I have risen to face another day. I pray that I might be your dutiful servant and not fall from your good grace. I fear no obstacles because I am walking in your space. Let me exalt you for any success and share with you any disappointments. Guide me to a safe return home that I might reflect on this glorious day with fond remembrance and look forward to another. Amen

Peace among Nations

Almighty God, heavenly Father, guide the nations of the world into ways of justice and truth and establish among them that peace is the fruit of righteousness, that they may become the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen

For those who are Sick

O God, who are the only source of health and healing the spirit of calm and the eternal peace of this universe, grant unto (name) such a consciousness of your surrounding presence, that they may permit You to give them health and strength and peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Sickness

Lord Jesus, according to Your will, relieve the sickness that has come upon Your servants. Restore and renew health and strength to them, so that they may again serve You in their daily lives. Until Your gracious restoration, assure them of Your presence and love by pointing them to Your cross. There the eternal consequence of sin was removed, assuring us that at the Last Day, we will be free from all sickness. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.

Sleep that will not come

Lord, the night grows long and restless. I can find neither peace nor rest. I seek Your relief. The worries of the day, the stress of life and the anxiety for the future prove to be too much for me right now. The pain of both body and soul steals away my sleep. You are my rest and peace. I pray that You would grant to me the comfort of your Holy Spirit that I may find rest in Your promises, that You work all things for good; that you never give me more than I can handle by faith; that You are with me always and that your angels keep watch over my bed. You are my Shepherd and Friend, my Lord and my Savior. Give me rest this night, I pray, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus. Amen

Sorrow

Help me Lord, to keep on trusting, even when the day is bleak,
And my throat is sore from crying and my voice can hardly speak.
Take away my pain and sorrow, let me feel Thy presence near;
Help me walk in sweet progression just knowing that you hear.
No fear of what has come before me, no looking back at things that were
Grant me grace to live each moment with the things that are assured.
If my human strength should falter under barbs and heavy load,
Please come and ease my burden, lest I totter down the road.
If my spirit wanes in trying and faint tremors take command
Force me, Lord, to keep on walking; guided, strengthened, by Thy Hand
Amen

Sickness/Surgery

Loving God, hold_______(name)_______ in your care. Give wisdom and skill to the doctors and nurses, and enable them to serve your purposes of love and healing, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Table Prayer

Be present at our table, Lord. Be here and everywhere adored. These mercies bless and grant that we may strengthened for Thy service be. Amen.

Five Finger Prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones, as C. S. Lewis once said, is a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, nurses, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger, It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all, which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen. --Reinhold Niebuhr

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
