A Cure for Kristin!

Searching for a Cure
Propionic acidemia (PA)is a metabolic disorder that affects approximately 1/50,000 newborns each year in the United States. Children must consume a diet low in protein to avoid illness, and to date there is no cure for this disease. Kristin is my daughter, a 7 year old who is one of many children who live with this disorder every day and hope with their parents that one day a cure will be found. Imagine trying to control a severe case of diabetes through diet alone without the aid of insulin!! Parents and caregivers are pushed to their limits in an ongoing struggle to keep PA children metabolically balanced and out of the hospital. Ongoing research efforts, however, are underway to find new treatments and a gene therapy that can cure this disorder. Please join us in funding PA researchers who are working to make life with PA more bearable.

PA Research News
Several academic research labs are currently involved in studying various aspects of PA and are working towards understanding this disease and developing new treatments for patients. The Propionic Acidemia Research Network, PARnet, is seeking donations to the Organic Acidemia Association PA Research Fund to provide grants to continue the studies of these researchers.
