Poverty in Modern America
Modern America
I have been quiet since the election of
last November. If you read my latest article you will get an
idea why. I am a conservative and have been since my
undergraduate degree in Social Science. I was very young then
but nothing in my life has changed my views. In fact, I am
more solid in my beliefs than I ever was back then. My
parents always voted Democrat. My dad was a farmer and he
loved getting that government check for NOT growing a crop when he
finally had his own farm. That's the thinking that has
brought us to where we are today. It's the same thinking that
brought the Roman Empire to an end. It's the same thinking
that brought Hitler to power. Pardon me if I'm a bit sad by
what I see today.
If you are poor in America, you are
better off than the middle class in most of the rest of the world.
My dad, as I said, was a farmer. In my young life,
he was a sharecropper. In other words, we owned nothing.
We moved frequently to farm land that was not ours.
By the time I graduated from high school I had attended 13
different schools. I spent two years in one grade school and
three years in one high school. You do the math on the rest.
I said all that to say this: we were poor!
We had no phone, no radio or TV or electiciy with which to
run them, no indoor plumbing until I was about six or seven, and no car
most of those first several years of my life. Most of the
above I didn't even know existed. I did not know we were poor
nor did I ever miss a meal that I can remember. My point is,
the poor here in America don't know what poor is.
What do we do about the poor?
In 1964 then President Johnson declared a "War on Poverty."
We have spent billions of dollars on this so called war over
the years and the poor are still poor. Many of them work
menial jobs while waiting for the likes of an Obama to make them rich.
Don't ask me why they believe that can happen. If I
had to guess, I'd guess that's what the politicians and the press keep
telling them. President Obama is the worst of the worst when
it comes to deceiving them. Just use some common sense.
If the rich are taxed more, they have less. What do
they do? Lay people off, or give less to charity, or raise
prices on products. Are any of those alternatives good for
the poor? If anything, the best thing for the poor is to tax
the rich less so they can hire more people so they can help themselves.
Or, give more to charities that help those who are really in
need. Or, provide products at a lower price so the poor can
afford them. How difficult is that to understand?
Let's look at the current political
'reality.' Obama and the Left want to help the poor, right?
What is their idea? Move the country to a larger
government so they can move the money from the rich to the poor (even
though some of what they are doing would be against our Constitution,
if we had a Supreme Court that understood it). How do they do
that? Grow the unions and destroy the independence of
companies? OK. Let's look at how that has worked.
The unions have demanded more benefits and pay than the rest
of the work force. How has the companies kept up with that
demand? Raise prices. All well and good as long as
the public can pay it. Not so good in a down economy.
Worse if the government demands what products will be
produced and with what standards. We can't compete with
foreign countries now. It'll get worse. OK, lets
say we have more government intervention. More companies are then,
taken over by the Fed. Ooooh! That's efficient!? Take a look at the Postal Service, Social Security, Medicare, and everything else the government runs.
Now let's say eventually all companies are taken over by the
government. They hire, fire (Obama has already fired GM's CEO), pay, and provide every need,
such as medical care, which just passed into law. If you haven't noticed, that's called
Communism. Look anywhere in the world Communism exists.
How does it look to you? How are the people faring
in say, North Korea? China? If you don't get the
picture, you are part of the problem and you will deserve exactly what
coming to this country unless a miracle happens. We can see
by history that the people will not stop it. It will take
divine intervention.
Divine intervention? Well, what's the chance of that?
Let's see, we allowed Madeline Murry O'Hare to kick God out
of schools back in the '60s. Our Supreme (a misnomer if there
ever was one) Court said it's OK to slaughter 51 million unborn babies
and we said, "I don't like that but they must know best, so OK."
We let Dr. Spock intimidate us to allowing our kids to
disobey us at every turn without punishment. But even before
all that we allowed our kids to be taught that the Bible is not true by
allowing Darwin to be our god, even though it's been proven to be false
doctrine. Now you have a president who wants to put science on
a pedestal. The same science that told us the world was flat
and the center of the universe many years ago. We see the
science books change every year because we find something out that was
not correct last year. One question here. How many
times has the Bible changed or been proven wrong? None and
Never! Oh, by the way. Have you heard what Obama is doing with our National Day of Prayer? Why would God intervene a miracle in a country that has turned their backs on Him?
Finally I say to the rich, enjoy it while you can. It's about
to be lost. To the poor I say, enjoy it while you can.
It's about to be lost. Your country can be a third
world country sooner than you think. Oh, but you don't know
what that means anyway, do you? Good luck with that.
And Now They Have Us
And Now They Have Us
How The Deceiver Did It
November 17, 2008
It began long ago. Long before Darwin. Darwin, however, popularized his and other's theory of evolution. Darwin didn't question the existence of God, but was critical of the history of the Old Testament. I am reminded of the
Genesis account of the fall of Adam and Eve. Satan (in the serpent) didn't come out and say "God lied to you." He knew that would be rejected at the outset. What he did was to
create doubt by having Eve think about what God had actually said and doubt it. In the third chapter of Genesis, the serpent (Satan) deceives Eve by convencing her that God didn't really prohibit
eating from the tree of good and evil. "Did God really say, `You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (Genesis 3:1b) The seed was planted and you know the results.
Our world became corrupt, sinful, and death came into existence. The Deceiver has been at it ever since.
Our nation has been a coveted prize for him and now he has us. The last election has proved that our nation has been deceived to the point of not caring about the issues, morality, or the future. Since I believe the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, I believe every Word it says. That includes Romans 8:28.
Therefore I believe something good will come from the decline and fall of the United States. Yes, I said the decline and fall of the United States. It has been happening for a long
time. Evidence? Oh, there's plenty.
Darwin, as mentioned, did not start the belief that we evolved from some simpler organism. Science was quick to pick up on it from him, however, and soon it became the theory of life taught in the schools. Never mind the evidence used did not prove the
accepted 'fact.' There was evidence that natural selection did and does occur within 'species,' however, there was none that any species evolved into others. For example, there are dozens of different dogs within that species. There are no dogs evolving into something other than dogs. There are no animals that have evolved into dogs. Each time a new 'breed' is created from the dog species, there is DNA information lost.
Not gained. No improvements or any information that could possibly create another kind of creature. There is only the introduction of some mutation that cause problems such as new allergies or other medical problems. Another example of this
is shown by breeding a horse with a donkey, both of the same species.
What you get is a mule. It is, however, completely sterile.
There have been a few reported incidents of fertile female mules, but their offspring are always very weak and most die at birth.
The fertile females have to be bred by a horse or a donkey. There are no fertile male mules. I could find no evidence of mules surviving beyond the second generation.
No new 'kinds' of creatures have ever been proved to come from another kind. There is nothing in transition.
Never has been.
What has been introduced, however, is doubt. That's the devil's tool. He used it in the Garden of Eden. He used it on scientists. If they can get us to believe in the
"Big Bang." even though it has been proven it couldn't have happened, we MUST question Genesis in the Bible. No matter how many ways we can
prove that the six days of creation were in fact 24 hour days, scientists have successfully caused us to doubt it. If you believe that dinosaurs were here before man, then you cannot believe in
creation. Why not? Because the Bible says that after God created man and animals He rested on the seventh day and indeed, "everything was very good." If death came before Adam sinned, then God created death as something good. If you
believe that, what kind of God do you believe in? If you doubt the Bible in Genesis, how can you believe that a person was "born of a virgin?" How can you believe that Jesus died for our
sins and raised Himself from the grave? If you question that, you are not a Christian. Plain and simple. Therein lies our problem. Satan has brought us much doubt.
That results in the belief that the Bible is just a good book to use for moral lessons. Where does that leave us as a nation? The Bible tells us that, too. We read in Psalm 33:12: Blessed
is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. That was us many years ago.
What else does the Bible say about this?
Deuteronomy 8:19-20, If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not
obeying the LORD your God.
You can see these warnings in many other places such as:
Proverbs 14:34; Jeremiah 5:7-9;
Jeremiah 7:27; and Jeremiah 18:7-10 to name a few.
It does not bode well for us, whom as a nation, have turned our eyes away from Him. That include churchs. The mighty Catholic Church has acquiesced to the teaching of evolution, ignoring the fact that evolution puts death before the fall, directly going against the Bible. Churchs like the Episcopals, ignore God's direct statement that He hates homosexuality. It is very plain in Leviticus 18:2, where we are told that God considers that detestable. So much so that we see in 1Corinthians 6:9-10, "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." It follows however, that God loves the individuals who repent from that sin.
Verse 11 says, "And
that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." In other words, if we would stop tolerating the sin and calling it what it is, these children of God could get help, repent and be saved. If the church tolerates it as normal, they have no chance at salvation.
But, Hey! If they don't believe Genesis, why should they believe the rest of the Bible?
OK. That's enough about individuals. We are talking nations here. You can see how the corrupted rights of individuals inhibits the nation from rightousness.
But that's not all there is. We have perverted our legal system to the point we no longer allow the Ten Commandments to be our guiding light. They are being pulled from public places
including courthouses as we speak.
The doubt which was useful for bringing about the downfall of Adam and Eve, and ultimately mankind, continues to be used today.
Let's move from the early 1800s (Darwin era) to the 20th Century. Here we find another tool of Satin by the name of Madeline Murry O'Hare.
In 1963, she was successful in getting God thrown out of public schools. That has emboldened many atheists and atheistic organizations, well funded by many people who have no idea what the organizations really stand for, such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to continue the attack on Christianity. They have been successful in using the Supreme Court over the years to destroy the foundations of our Constitution and the intent of the Founding Fathers. We stood by and watched
it happen. Any objections were met with activists complaining we were infringing on their rights, while trampling the rights of the rest of the country. We continued to elect people who placed
liberal interpreters into the courts all over the country. Not just the highest court.
The devil, not happy enough with the inevitability or speed of corruption, placed the same type of people in our schools and colleges, especially journalist schools. Not only were our kids now being brainwashed at the elementary and high school level, they now were trained in the colleges with the same incorrect theories that undermines the Bible. The journalists learn this as 'fact' then preach it on television and newspapers across the country.
When a fossil find becomes news, they do not question the claim it is "millions of years old." They never question the science that bases their claims on assumptions and supposition.
Since secular science denies the existence of God, they have to explain things away that don't fit scientific inquiry. An example here is evidence like the footprint of a dinosaur on top
of a human footprint. Since dinosaurs, in their view, died out millions of years before humans came along, they simply ignore these kinds of finds. Or, for example, when the layers of new rock that was laid down by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980 were dated at millions of years
old, they are silent. In fact, every bit of evidence scientists use for explaining an old age earth, points more accurately that the Bible is accurate. Not the reverse. Ask
yourself why science books must change annually as new discoveries are made, but the Bible has never had to be changed. Nothing in the Bible has
ever been proved incorrect. So, what we hear every day on the main stream media is more liberal bias, from a brainwashed journalistic society.
If you are affluent enough to have cable or dish television you could hear other views, however, most do not or they are addicted to CBS, NBC, ABC, or public stations. They never hear the 'rest of the story,' if I can borrow a phrase from Paul Harvey.
The results are clear; we listen to the main stream media and vote for their choice of candidate, tainted by their liberal bias.
Add to all that, the 1973 Supreme Court decision to ban any restriction on abortion. Playing on the emotions of those that had heard of some young women losing their lives due to illegal abortion, it
became legal. Children, created by God are being destroyed in the womb before they have a chance to live, with no rights at all. Fifty million at latest count, with unknown devastating effect to our future.
We are told it's for women's rights. That's the Devil's mantra. That's the emotional doubt that's thrown at us for believing that abortion is an anathema, barbaric, and against the Bible and our Constitution, regardless of what the Supreme Court said.
So now where are we? We have elected the most liberal president in our nation's history. We ignored his relationships with a church that hates the country. We ignored the fact that he cavorted with known terrorist and criminals. We ignored the fact that he has ties with the Muslim religion, a religion that has stated that they plan to end Christianity. We ignored the fact that his policies include taking money from legitimate businesses and other people and giving it to people who participate little or nothing to the success of this country. Take that a step further and relearn some history...or learn it for the first time. Do you know how ancient Rome was defeated? It was NOT! It began with acceptance of sin and toleration of sin, including homosexuality. Slowly it destroyed itself by voting more and more benefits to its populace. As benefits increased, more people from the outside, non-Romans, moved in to benefit from them. As more moved in and the benefits became impossible to pay for, the government collapsed of its own weight. Sound familiar? Its happening to us right now. We don't control our borders so outsiders come to enjoy the American "gifts." Liberals, and so called "Moderates," to stay in power and increase their power base, promise more and more benefits. More people, especially those that are on the lower end of the economic scale, are brainwashed to believe this is good for the country. As the price for these benefits increase, we will reach a point, sooner than later, from which we cannot recover. The society will collapse, just as Rome did. It makes no difference how powerful we are militarily. Rome was not, nor will we be, defeated.
We will, as they did, destroy ourselves. Its just a matter of time.
Pessimistic view? You bet. For our country.
There is no way out from here. As more moderates invade the Republican Party, the percentage of conservatives decreases.
I can see no scenario where the Republicans, conservative Republicans, can ever regain control of Congress again. I hope it takes as much time to happen that it took Rome but I doubt it.
It took around 400 years for a total collapse of the civilization there. If we last another 20 years, I'll be surprised. But pessimistic for Christians? No way!
We have the faith of our fathers and will follow the teaching of our Lord to the end. We are told that these things would happen at the end times. It will get worse in this society, but we must hold fast to our belief in a better life in a better place.
We cannot put our faith in the United States any longer.
Our faith must be in Him! Come, Lord Jesus.
We, as You told us to do, are waiting for You to come "as a thief in the night."
Decline and Fall of the United States of America
I implore you to read the
following document and
message. The
document, as explained, is
from “The Life of Colonel David Crockett,” by
Edward Sylvester Ellis. It
was obviously from a time when Colonel
Crockett was a Tennessee
representative in the United State House of Representatives. The message following it
was received by me
in an e-mail. I
can’t find any reference
to it on snopes.com, however, it reflects what many people feel in this
time in
our country’s life. It’s
not the only
evidence of how people feel and I for one have been afraid to utter the
words
out loud that our country has lost its way.
We are on a decline only God can stop.
And the way we have treated Him, I’m not sure He
is interested in our recovery. This
could be the final throes of a
struggling democracy, betrayed by greed for money and power by elites
and
politicians that no longer believe in the leadership of God the Father. In cahoots with them are
today’s journalists,
who, like them, believe in nothing but themselves and know that the
American
people are ignorant. Notice
I said
ignorant, not stupid, as some have suggested.
Their ignorance comes from apathy.
They don’t want to be bothered by the day to day
operations of their
government. They
just want to see their
own portfolio increase. But
while they
are watching their money pile up to the point they can’t see
the other side
being pilfered, they don’t realize the government is passing
laws to let the
thieves keep it. The
people are told the
laws are necessary to keep their pile growing.
So, we go along and say to them, “You are so
wise. We shall keep
re-electing you.”
Soon there will be a time when
your pile will
collapse from the other side. It
may be
as soon as next week what with Congress passing a bill that will cost
this
country another $750 billion. We
will
look back and wonder what happened and seek information. You will find it. You will find evidence
pointing to several
places in history where we sat by and did nothing.
Some of us even helped it happen.
There was a time in 1973 when the Supreme
Court decided it was all right for women to abort innocent children. Some felt saddened by
that, but did
nothing. We felt
guilty. So, to take
away some of the guilt we decided
that God had no place in our schools.
We
decided that Christmas, a holiday to honor our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ,
was offensive to some so we made it into something hollow. We removed the symbols
from the public
square, giving more evidence to our children that God was not someone
to
honor. We began to
tolerate the
lifestyle of homosexuals. It
became
instead of something that needed to be cured, to something normal. Becoming normal it needed
no cure so those
with the affliction no longer need to seek help.
Never mind that God Himself told us He hated
that. No, we
decided an unchanging God
had changed His mind. These
are by no
means all that we did but hopefully you get the picture.
Since God is no longer welcome
in our society, He
has, it appears to this writer, that He has turned His eye away from us. Perhaps to bring the end a
little
closer. The few of
us that are left that
believe the Bible is the revealed Word of God, believe that Jesus died
and rose
again for the sins of man, and believe that He will come again to end
this
world and its turmoil, welcome it.
We
are saddened only that people around us are lost.
We pray that our children will not suffer the
same disease that is now common among men.
We pray the end will be gentle on our loved ones and
friends. We fear it
will not. May God
have mercy upon us all.
Please see my final note at the end of the
messages below:
Not Yours To
Give
Col. David Crockett
US Representative from Tennessee
Originally published in "The Life
of Colonel David
Crockett," by Edward Sylvester Ellis.
One day in the House of
Representatives a bill was taken up appropriating money for the benefit
of a
widow of a distinguished naval officer. Several beautiful speeches had
been
made in its support. The speaker was just about to put the question
when
Crockett arose:
"Mr. Speaker--I have
as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as much sympathy
for the
suffering of the living, if there be, as any man in this House, but we
must not
permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy for part of the living
to lead
us into an act of injustice to the balance of the living. I will not go
into an
argument to prove that Congress has not the power to appropriate this
money as
an act of charity. Every member on this floor knows it.
We have the right as
individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in
charity; but
as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the
public
money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us upon the ground that
it is a
debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the deceased lived long after the
close of
the war; he was in office to the day of his death, and I ever heard
that the
government was in arrears to him.
"Every man in this
House knows it is not a debt. We cannot without the grossest
corruption,
appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We have not the
semblance of
authority to appropriate it as charity. Mr. Speaker, I have said we
have the
right to give as much money of our own as we please. I am the poorest
man on
this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week's pay
to the
object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will
amount to
more than the bill asks."
He took his seat. Nobody
replied. The bill was put upon its passage, and, instead of passing
unanimously, as was generally supposed, and as, no doubt, it would, but
for
that speech, it received but few votes, and, of course, was lost.
Later, when asked by a
friend why he had opposed the appropriation, Crockett gave this
explanation:
"Several years ago I
was one evening standing on the steps of the Capitol with some members
of
Congress, when our attention was attracted by a great light over in Georgetown.
It was
evidently a large fire. We jumped into a hack and drove over as fast as
we
could. In spite of all that could be done, many houses were burned and
many
families made houseless, and besides, some of them had lost all but the
clothes
they had on. The weather was very cold, and when I saw so many children
suffering, I felt that something ought to be done for them. The next
morning a
bill was introduced appropriating $20,000 for their relief. We put
aside all
other business and rushed it through as soon as it could be done.
"The next summer,
when it began to be time to think about election, I concluded I would
take a
scout around among the boys of my district. I had no opposition there
but, as
the election was some time off, I did not know what might turn up. When
riding
one day in a part of my district in which I was more of a stranger than
any
other, I saw a man in a field plowing and coming toward the road. I
gauged my
gait so that we should meet as he came up, I spoke to the man. He
replied
politely, but as I thought, rather coldly.
"I began: 'Well
friend, I am one of those unfortunate beings called candidates and---
"Yes I know you; you
are Colonel Crockett. I have seen you once before, and voted for you
the last
time you were elected. I suppose you are out electioneering now, but
you had
better not waste your time or mine, I shall not vote for you again."
"This was a
sockdolger...I begged him tell me what was the matter.
"Well Colonel, it is
hardly worthwhile to waste time or words upon it. I do not see how it
can be
mended, but you gave a vote last winter which shows that either you
have not
capacity to understand the Constitution, or that you are wanting in the
honesty
and firmness to be guided by it. In either case you are not the man to
represent me. But I beg your pardon for expressing it that way. I did
not
intend to avail myself of the privilege of the constituent to speak
plainly to
a candidate for the purpose of insulting you or wounding you.'
"I intend by it only
to say that your understanding of the constitution is very different
from mine;
and I will say to you what but for my rudeness, I should not have said,
that I
believe you to be honest.
But an understanding of
the constitution different from mine I cannot overlook, because the
Constitution, to be worth anything, must be held sacred, and rigidly
observed
in all its provisions. The man who wields power and misinterprets it is
the
more dangerous the honest he is.'
" 'I admit the truth
of all you say, but there must be some mistake. Though I live in the
backwoods
and seldom go from home, I take the papers from Washington and
read very carefully all the
proceedings of Congress. My papers say you voted for a bill to
appropriate
$20,000 to some sufferers by fire in Georgetown.
Is that true?
"Well my friend; I
may as well own up. You have got me there. But certainly nobody will
complain
that a great and rich country like ours should give the insignificant
sum of
$20,000 to relieve its suffering women and children, particularly with
a full
and overflowing treasury, and I am sure, if you had been there, you
would have
done just the same as I did.'
"It is not the
amount, Colonel, that I complain of; it is the principle. In the first
place,
the government ought to have in the Treasury no more than enough for
its
legitimate purposes. But that has nothing with the question. The power
of
collecting and disbursing money at pleasure is the most dangerous power
that
can be entrusted to man, particularly under our system of collecting
revenue by
a tariff, which reaches every man in the country, no matter how poor he
may be,
and the poorer he is the more he pays in proportion to his means.
What is worse, it presses
upon him without his knowledge where the weight centers, for there is
not a man
in the United States
who can ever guess how much he pays to the government. So you see, that
while
you are contributing to relieve one, you are drawing it from thousands
who are
even worse off than he.
If you had the right to
give anything, the amount was simply a matter of discretion with you,
and you
had as much right to give $20,000,000 as $20,000. If you have the right
to give
at all; and as the Constitution neither defines charity nor stipulates
the
amount, you are at liberty to give to any and everything which you may
believe,
or profess to believe, is a charity and to any amount you may think
proper. You
will very easily perceive what a wide door this would open for fraud
and
corruption and favoritism, on the one hand, and for robbing the people
on the
other. 'No, Colonel, Congress has no right to give charity.'
"'Individual members
may give as much of their own money as they please, but they have no
right to
touch a dollar of the public money for that purpose. If twice as many
houses
had been burned in this country as in Georgetown,
neither you nor any other member of Congress would have Thought of
appropriating a dollar for our relief. There are about two hundred and
forty
members of Congress. If they had shown their sympathy for the sufferers
by
contributing each one week's pay, it would have made over $13,000.
There are
plenty of wealthy men around Washington
who could have given $20,000 without depriving themselves of even a
luxury of
life.'
"The congressmen
chose to keep their own money, which, if reports be true, some of them
spend
not very creditably; and the people about Washington, no
doubt, applauded you for
relieving them from necessity of giving what was not yours to give. The
people
have delegated to Congress, by the Constitution, the power to do
certain
things. To do these, it is authorized to collect and pay moneys, and
for
nothing else. Everything beyond this is usurpation, and a violation of
the
Constitution.'
"'So you see,
Colonel, you have violated the Constitution in what I consider a vital
point.
It is a precedent fraught with danger to the country, for when Congress
once
begins to stretch its power beyond the limits of the Constitution,
there is no
limit to it, and no security for the people. I have no doubt you acted
honestly, but that does not make it any better, except as far as you
are
personally concerned, and you see that I cannot vote for you.'
"I tell you I felt
streaked. I saw if I should have opposition, and this man should go to
talking
and in that district I was a gone fawn-skin. I could not answer him,
and the
fact is, I was so fully convinced that he was right, I did not want to.
But I
must satisfy him, and I said to him:
"Well, my friend, you
hit the nail upon the head when you said I had not sense enough to
understand
the Constitution. I intended to be guided by it, and thought I had
studied it
fully. I have heard many speeches in Congress about the powers of
Congress, but
what you have said here at your plow has got more hard, sound sense in
it than
all the fine speeches I ever heard. If I had ever taken the view of it
that you
have, I would have put my head into the fire before I would have given
that
vote; and if you will forgive me and vote for me again, if I ever vote
for
another unconstitutional law I wish I may be shot.'
"He laughingly
replied; 'Yes, Colonel, you have sworn to that once before, but I will
trust
you again upon one condition. You are convinced that your vote was
wrong. Your
acknowledgment of it will do more good than beating you for it. If, as
you go
around the district, you will tell people about this vote, and that you
are
satisfied it was wrong, I will not only vote for you, but will do what
I can to
keep down opposition, and perhaps, I may exert some little influence in
that
way.'
"If I don't, said I,
'I wish I may be shot; and to convince you that I am in earnest in what
I say I
will come back this way in a week or ten days, and if you will get up a
gathering of people, I will make a speech to them. Get up a barbecue,
and I
will pay for it.'
"No, Colonel, we are
not rich people in this section but we have plenty of provisions to
contribute
for a barbecue, and some to spare for those who have none. The push of
crops
will be over in a few days, and we can then afford a day for a
barbecue. 'This
Thursday; I will see to getting it up on Saturday week. Come to my
house on
Friday, and we will go together, and I promise you a very respectable
crowd to
see and hear you.
"'Well I will be
here. But one thing more before I say good-bye. I must know your name."
"'My name is Bunce.'
"'Not Horatio Bunce?'
"'Yes
"'Well, Mr. Bunce, I
never saw you before, though you say you have seen me, but I know you
very
well. I am glad I have met you, and very proud that I may hope to have
you for
my friend.'
"It was one of the
luckiest hits of my life that I met him. He mingled but little with the
public,
but was widely known for his remarkable intelligence, and for a heart
brim-full
and running over with kindness and benevolence, which showed themselves
not
only in words but in acts. He was the oracle of the whole country
around him,
and his fame had extended far beyond the circle of his immediate
acquaintance.
Though I had never met him, before, I had heard much of him, and but
for this
meeting it is very likely I should have had opposition, and had been
beaten.
One thing is very certain, no man could now stand up in that district
under
such a vote.
"At the appointed
time I was at his house, having told our conversation to every crowd I
had met,
and to every man I stayed all night with, and I found that it gave the
people
an interest and confidence in me stronger than I had ever seen
manifested
before.
"Though I was
considerably fatigued when I reached his house, and, under ordinary
circumstances, should have gone early to bed, I kept him up until
midnight
talking about the principles and affairs of government, and got more
real, true
knowledge of them than I had got all my life before."
"I have known and
seen much of him since, for I respect him - no, that is not the word -
I
reverence and love him more than any living man, and I go to see him
two or
three times every year; and I will tell you, sir, if every one who
professes to
be a Christian lived and acted and enjoyed it as he does, the religion
of
Christ would take the world by storm.
"But to return to my
story. The next morning we went to the barbecue and, to my surprise,
found
about a thousand men there. I met a good many whom I had not known
before, and
they and my friend introduced me around until I had got pretty well
acquainted
- at least, they all knew me.
"In due time notice
was given that I would speak to them. They gathered up around a stand
that had
been erected. I opened my speech by saying:
"Fellow-citizens - I
present myself before you today feeling like a new man. My eyes have
lately
been opened to truths which ignorance or prejudice or both, had
heretofore
hidden from my view. I feel that I can today offer you the ability to
render
you more valuable service than I have ever been able to render before.
I am
here today more for the purpose of acknowledging my error than to seek
your
votes. That I should make this acknowledgment is due to myself as well
as to
you. Whether you will vote for me is a matter for your consideration
only."
"I went on to tell
them about the fire and my vote for the appropriation and then told
them why I
was satisfied it was wrong. I closed by saying:
"And now,
fellow-citizens, it remains only for me to tell you that the most of
the speech
you have listened to with so much interest was simply a repetition of
the
arguments by which your neighbor, Mr. Bunce, convinced me of my error.
"It is the best
speech I ever made in my life, but he is entitled to the credit for it.
And now
I hope he is satisfied with his convert and that he will get up here
and tell
you so.'
"He came up to the
stand and said:
"Fellow-citizens - it
affords me great pleasure to comply with the request of Colonel
Crockett. I
have always considered him a thoroughly honest man, and I am satisfied
that he
will faithfully perform all that he has promised you today.'
"He went down, and
there went up from that crowd such a shout for Davy Crockett as his
name never
called forth before.'
"I am not much given
to tears, but I was taken with a choking then and felt some big drops
rolling
down my cheeks. And I tell you now that the remembrance of those few
words
spoken by such a man, and the honest, hearty shout they produced, is
worth more
to me than all the honors I have received and all the reputation I have
ever
made, or ever shall make, as a member of Congress.'
"Now, sir,"
concluded Crockett, "you know why I made that speech yesterday.
"There is one thing which I will call your attention, "you remember
that I proposed to give a week's pay. There are in that House many very
wealthy
men - men who think nothing of spending a week's pay, or a dozen of
them, for a
dinner or a wine party when they have something to accomplish by it.
Some of
those same men made beautiful speeches upon the great debt of gratitude
which
the country owed the deceased--a debt which could not be paid by
money--and the
insignificance and worthlessness of money, particularly so
insignificant a sum
as $20,000 when weighed against the honor of the nation. Yet not one of
them
responded to my proposition. Money with them is nothing but trash when
it is to
come out of the people. But it is the one great thing for which most of
them
are striving, and many of them sacrifice honor, integrity, and justice
to
obtain it."
We have the same
politicians in Congress today. The
problem is, we don’t have a Colonel Crockett.
The
following is a message
claimed to be from a Dr. Wilson, from Beverly Hills. Do you
feel this way too?
"Where's
The Outrage?'
Really. I can tell you where the outrage is. The outrage is here, in
this
middle-aged, well-educated, upper-middle class woman. The outrage is
here, but
I have no representation, no voice. The outrage is here, but no one is
listening to me, for who am I?
I'm not a billionaire like George Soros that can fund an entire
political
movement.
I'm not a celebrity like Barbra Streisand that can garner the attention
of the
press to promote political candidates.
I'm not a film maker like Michael Moore or Al Gore that can deliver
misleading
movies to the public.
The outrage is here, but unlike those with money or power, I don't know
how to
reach those who feel similarly in order to effect change.
Why am I outraged? I am outraged that my country, the United States of
America,
is in a state of moral and ethical decline. There is no right
or wrong anymore,
just what's fair.
Is it fair that millions of Americans who overreached and borrowed more
than
they could afford are now being bailed out by the government and
lending
institutions to stave off foreclosure? Why shouldn't these
people be made
to pay the consequences for their poor judgment?
When my husband and I purchased our home, we were careful to purchase
only what
we could afford. Believe me, there are much larger, much
nicer homes that
I would have loved to have purchased. But, taking
responsibility for my
behavior and my life, I went with the house that we could afford, not
the house
that we couldn't afford. The notion of personal responsibility has all
but died
in our country.
I am outraged, that the country that welcomed my mother as an immigrant
from
Hitler's Nazi Germany and required that she and her family learn
English now
allows itself to be overrun with illegal immigrants and worse, caters
to those
illegal immigrants.
I am outraged that my hard-earned taxes help support those here
illegally;
That the Los Angeles Public School District is in such disarray that I
felt it
Incumbent to send my child to private school; that every time I go to
the ATM,
I see "do you want to continue in English or Spanish?"; that every
time I call the bank, the phone company , or similar business, I hear
"press 1 for English or press 2 for Spanish." WHY?
This
is America,
our common language is English and attempts to promote a bi- or
multi-lingual
society are sure to fail and to marginalize those who cannot
communicate in
English.
I am outraged at our country's weakness in the face of new threats on
American
traditions from Muslims. Just this week, Tyson's Food
negotiated with its
union to permit Muslims to have Eid-al-Fitr as a holiday instead of
Labor Day.
What am I missing? Yes, there is a large Somali
Muslim population
working at the Tyson's plant in Tennessee.
Tennessee, last I
checked, is still part of
the United
States.
If Muslim's want to live and work here they should be
required to live and
work by our American Laws and not impose their will on our long
history.
In the same week, Random House announced that they had indefinitely
delayed the
publication of "The Jewel of Medina," by Sherry Jones, a book about
the life of Mohammed's wife, A'isha due to fear of retribution and
violence by
Muslims. When did we become a nation ruled by fear of what
other
immigrant groups want? It makes me so sad to see large
corporations cave
rather than stand proudly on the principles that built this country.
I am outraged because appeasement has never worked as a political
policy, yet
Appeasing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is exactly what we are trying
to do.
An excellent article, also published recently in the Wall
Street Journal,
went through over 20 years of history and why talking with Iran
has been
and will continue to be ineffective. Yet talk, with a madman no less,
we
continue to do. Have we so lost our moral compass and its ability to
detect
evil that we will not go in and destroy Iran's
nuclear program? Would
we rather wait for another Holocaust for the Jews – one which
the y would be
unlikely to survive? When does it end?
As if the battle for good and evil isn't enough, now come the
Environmentalists
who are so afraid of global warming that they want to put a bag tax on
grocery
bags in California; to eliminate Mylar balloons; to establish something
as
insidious as the recycle police in San Francisco. I do my
share for the
environment – I recycle, I use water wisely, I installed an
energy efficient
air conditioning unit.
But
when and where does the lunacy stop? Ahmadinejad wants to
wipe Israel
off the map, the California
economy is being overrun by illegal immigrants, and the United States of
America
no longer knows right from wrong; good from evil. So what does California
do? Tax
grocery bags.
So, America,
although I can tell you where the outrage is, this one middle-aged,
well-educated, upper middle class woman is powerless to do anything
about it.
I don't even feel like my vote counts because I am so
outnumbered by
those who disagree with me.

There
you have it. I hope
you took the time to
read these rather lengthy messages but if you are like most people in
this
country, you did not. It’s
too long and
you’re too busy. I
understand. It may
be too late anyway. On
the other hand, if this is inspirational
enough to get you on you knees, and then to get up and start doing
something
about it, then God bless you. You
cannot
do anything by yourself. Neither
can
I. But together and
with help of God we
can do miracles. But
if we don’t do it
now then when? If
we can’t persuade our
leaders that we are on the wrong path, then what?
I can’t tell you what to do.
If you are really interested in stopping the
decline of this country, then for God’s sake, find out what
to do!
Election 2008
Updated September 9, 2008
I
know you’ve heard this before but this is only the second time
you heard me say “This is the most important election of my
lifetime.” And
I’ve been voting since the election of
1960. Why is this
election so
important? Because
it could mean the end
of this country as we know it. Let’s
take a look at some issues.
First,
don’t expect either Obama or McCain to end abortion
legality. It
ain’t gonna’ happen.
However, the Supreme Court’s decision on the
matter in 1973 was the beginning of the Court legislating from the
bench. If you want
more of that vote for Obama. He
is not only pro-abortion, he is also
pro-partial birth abortion. McCain
is
pro-life but I don’t see any change in the legality of
abortion any time
soon. How did you
like the decision by
the Court that the death penalty is “cruel and
unusual” punishment for the rape
of a child? For the
horrendous act of
destroying a child for life, it’s really cruel to be in
perfect comfort while
you go to sleep. Ri-i-i-ght! If you like those kinds of
decisions, vote
for Obama. However unlilkely a change will be forthcoming any time soon, there is new hope on the horizon. That hope is not only McCain, but a very conservative new star by the name of Sarah Palin. If change is to be made in the Supreme Court on the side of unborn children, it is this promising ticket.
Second,
how do you feel about allowing enemy combatants the
same rights in our courts as a citizen of the United States? Not only did the liberals
allow that, we all
have to pick up the tab. Yep,
“If you can’t
afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you.”
That’s part of their rights now.
The
Supreme Court has opened up a huge can of worms in their decision on
this
one. In fact, in my
humble opinion, what
you may see is some of these detainees in Guantanamo
ask for release because we didn’t Mirandise
them. No. I
don’t really
expect that but who knows? If
you like
this decision, vote for Obama. You’ll
get more of these kinds of Justices on the Supreme Court.
Third,
how do you feel when you are standing in line at the
theater or grocery when someone comes up and pushes their way in front
of
you? Then when they
get waited on, they
don’t pay. In
fact, you are charged for
their expenses with no recourse to refuse.
That’s what’s happening with illegal
aliens right now. Now
liberals want us to pay for their medical
care. People who
were standing in line,
waiting for legal entry into the country are told, “Sorry. We don’t have
room for you right now.”
It doesn’t matter how educated they are or
what needed skills they bring, they are shut out.
If you like this situation, vote for
Obama. His position? He’s in favor of
them getting universal
health care…at our expense.
Fourth,
how do you like higher taxes? Yes,
McCain voted against President Bush’s
tax relief bill. Now, however,
he is against
allowing them to expire, as the liberals wish to do. And, by the way, now even Obama is espousing a delay of expiring tax relief. Is anyone listening?
Anyway, whenever Obama and the Democrats allow the expiration, it would be a tax increase, which McCain has
NEVER been for. Obama
would like to give
the middle class a tax break…at the expense of the wealthy. How does that work? If the wealthy are taxed
more, they simply
lay off employees or charge higher prices for the goods they control. Who pays the taxes for
them? We all do.
So, if you like tax relief that’s paid for by
higher unemployment or
higher priced goods, vote for Obama.
Fifth,
if you like the current price of a gallon of
gasoline, you’ll love Obama.
His plan is
to do nothing. At
least nothing that
will help in the short run. He’s
for
renewable energy sources and other things that will be good in the long
run,
but do nothing for the current crisis.
Under his plans we will continue to be held hostage by
foreign countries
for our energy. Oh,
we have plenty of
oil. But we
can’t get to it because
liberals, in the pockets of environmentalists, refuse to allow us to
drill in
places we know there is oil. Even
McCain, who would allow for drilling off the coasts, would not allow
for it at
Anwar. Even though
we have proven that
we can do it without hurting the environment or one hair on the body of
an
elk! But here there is more hope in the person of Governor Palin! She is FOR drilling in Anwar. Pehaps if they are elected, she can convince McCain of the value in drilling in her home state! But if you
want to continue to pay
an arm and a leg for your fuel, vote for Obama.
On the other hand, if you just get our current Congress to
allow for
drilling, the price of gas will drop almost immediately because
speculation
will cease. The
chances for this
happening with Obama is nil.
Sixth,
how do you feel about letting Al Qaeda return to Iraq,
take it
over, and train men to attack us again? Imagine
if you will what happens when we leave
Iraq
without complete victory and a completely trained Iraqi army. Do you feel the vacuum? That is the vacuum that
will suck Al Qaeda
right into power. If
you want to leave Iraq
before the
job is done, vote for Obama. Never
mind
that when we leave, the terrorists will go there then follow our boys
home…to
attack. Obama says
if that happens he’ll
go back in. And
start all over from the
beginning? Give me
a break!
Here’s
the bottom line:
McCain is NOT a conservative on some issues. He was not my choice in
the primaries. However,
given a choice between an ultra
liberal like Barak Obama and a moderate (?) like John McCain, the
choice is
easy. Especially now that he has chosen Govornor Palin to be his running mate. McCain/Palin by a
landslide! McCain has a
tremendous amount of experience and
background. He’s
been in leadership
positions, suffered the worst kind of military experience, and has a
wife that
has an impressive background as well, but that’s another
subject you should
research. Obama, on
the other had, has
very little experience. In
fact, his
name is on not one bill in Congress except to sign off on someone else's bill. In fact, on most bills his vote was "Present." Is that the kind of President you want? Present!?
His
voting record is as discussed above.
Do
you know of a single thing he’s done before politics? And you’re still
thinking of voting for
him? Why? Because he’s
articulate? So was
Hitler. No.
I’m not comparing him to Hitler; just making a
point. You just
can’t make a judgment call on how
well a person can form a sentence or how much emotion he can invoke. Not when the country is at
stake. Of all the
above, the two most important
issues for our country is the Iraq
issue and the naming of Supreme Court Justices.
In both these issues, McCain is the only rational choice. May God give you the
wisdom to…choose McCain/Palin.
Global Warming
July
21, 2008
Do
you believe in ‘global warming?’
Some
say it is real and it will destroy life on this planet.
I believe they are right, but for very wrong
reasons. And their
timeline is ridiculous. In
fact, no one knows when ‘real’ global
warming will occur. Only
God knows.
David
Evans, a former global warming alarmist and creator of the method of
measuring Australia’s
compliance with the Kyoto protocol,
says there is no
evidence
that global warming is being caused by carbon emissions. He
says if any it plays
a minor role and that if global warming was caused by CO2,
scientists would find evidence of hot-spots about six miles up, over
the
tropics. Scientists
have been searching
but have never found this evidence.
He
is quoted as saying in an Australian newspaper that
“…an increased greenhouse
effect is not the cause of global warming.”
In fact, almost a year after his article, as if to confirm
it, it was reported in February
2008 that all four major global
temperature outlets are reporting that global temperatures have dropped
significantly over the past year.
Meteorologist
Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from
65-hundredths to 75-hundredths of a degree Centigrade. This is said to be a value
large enough to
erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. Actually, it is the single
fastest
temperature change ever recorded in either direction.
Why
is this happening? Some
scientists
believe the cooling is the result of reduced activity of our sun, which
of
course, is the source of warming, as well. And
they think this is some kind of
revelation! We all
know that God placed
the sun where it is around 6,000 years ago to give us light and heat.
But
let’s get back to global ‘warming.’
There will come a time when our Father in heaven has had
enough of the
corruption going on here on earth.
There
is precedence for this in Genesis.
Something about a big flood.
After that flood, however, there was a rainbow. That is to remind us that
he will never again
destroy the world with water. Next
time
it will be a lot hotter! Let’s
take a
look at a few scripture verses.
2
Peter 3:10 says: But
the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens
will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and
the
earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
This dialog continues in
verses 11 through 13:
Since
everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind
of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12
as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day
will bring
about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will
melt in the
heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are
looking forward to a
new heaven and a new earth,
the home of
righteousness.
Wait! A new heaven and a new
earth? What’s
that all about? Let’s
look at what John saw in his vision
recorded in Revelation 21 beginning in verse 1:
1
Then I saw a new
heaven and a new earth, for
the first heaven and the
first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2
I
saw the Holy
City,
the new Jerusalem, coming down out
of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her
husband. 3
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of
God
is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and
God
himself will be with them and be their God. 4
He will wipe every
tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying
or
pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
5
He who was seated on
the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said,
"Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
OK,
there you have it. Global
warming to the
extreme. At the
hand of God. Not
man.
Who are we that many among us think we can destroy what
God has created? How
can we be so arrogant? Well,
that’s part of the picture, isn’t it? That’s what God
is going to be angry
about. He will tire
of our self loving,
self aggrandizing, and self worth, and as he did when he tired of
mankind
building the Tower of Babel, he
will end it
for all time. When
we finally get to the
point that we no longer think we need God, when we eradicate Him from
all
public venues, and
when we think we are
so smart we can save this world for ourselves, He will probably send
the ‘warming’
that we think we can prevent. Then
it
will be over for so many. The
warming
they feared will be the fire they will have to endure forever. Scary?
You bet. I
for one don’t want to
be here when that happens. And
I won’t
be. How do I know? Let’s look at
other scripture. We
read in God’s Word in Revelations 21:5-7:
5
He
who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then
he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
6
He said to me: "It is
done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him
who is
thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water
of life.
7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I
will be his God and
he will be my son.
Then
in John, we hear about
the love of God for us all. A
love so
great that He came to earth as a human being in the name of Jesus
Christ, His
own son, not to just live among us and teach us how to live. Yes, He did that but much
more. We know that
the wages of sin, the penalty
earned by us all from the day Adam and Eve disobeyed Him, is death. Until then, no one got ill
or died. But
because of that sin, and ours, death came
into the world. Jesus
came to pay the
debt we owe because of sin. He
became
sin on the cross, suffered the pain of hell and died for us all, that
we might
live with Him in heaven forever. Now
we
didn’t stop dying when that happened, but those of us who
believe in Him no
longer die in our sins. We
are born
again into a new life, with a new heart.
A heart that hates sin and loves our God.
John told us in John 3:16:
16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life.
He also told us that those
who do not believe that are lost.
We
continue in verse 17-18:
17
For God did not send his Son
into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe
stands
condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one
and only
Son.
My
final word is this: Global
warming is
coming big time. If
you don’t know my
Lord, you will experience it. But
if you
do, you will be part of the new heaven and the new earth. Your joy will be complete.
Revelations
21:2-4:
2
I saw the Holy
City,
the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a
bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I
heard a loud voice from
the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will
live
with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them
and be
their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their
eyes. There will be
no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of
things has
passed away."
