| | Here at Ascension, we worsip every Sunday morning at 9:45 A.M. and take our service from the green LBW hymnal, setting two. We celebrate Holy Communion, and welcome all baptized Christians to receive the Lord's Supper with us. We sing a variety of new and familiar hymns, and we would love to have you join us! |

Lutherans are called "the Singing Church", and the people of Ascension are no exception! |

Doug has been with us serving as Organist at Ascension since 1990. Born in Independence Missouri, he attended Central Missouri State College and later the Julliard extension division, and the New England Conservatory of Music, there studying Afro-American Music and Jazz Composition. Doug comes from musical family and grew up at the keyboard. He considers himself a self-taught pianist, but not at all a self taught church organist. At 32 he satisfied a long-time personal dream and began studies at the Westminster Choir College in Princeton. "Nearly killing himself" and working hard to make the most of his time in this rigourous and prestigious program, he graduated in 1990 with a B.A. in Church Music, Organ being his principal concentration. He has been with us ever since.Doug is serious professional church musician, but you will find him an all around fun regular guy. He has a great appreciation of the music of our rich Lutheran Heritage and has a special gift for organ accompaniment that uplifts and supports the singing of a smaller or mid-sized congregation. Doug, although he never makes much of himself, really could be serving anywhere. A favorite hymn of his is "Blessed Assurance". Doug once mentioned to me, how his self-avowedly agnostic father, late in his life, made reference to a line from this hymn in a personal letter. He felt that it may have been a sign that beneath the surface, God had been working in him. Music we know has a unique ability to penetrate the soul, and through it often our faith is expressed better than we are able to do ourselves. As far as the Lutheran hymn tradition goes, Doug is a firm fan of "A Mighty Fortress" in which he considers the essentials of Christian Theology to be "crystalized like gems". He has also been known even to call it the "Lutheran National Anthem"! Ouside of church, Doug was recently honored on the 20th anniversary of his serving as accompanist for the American Reperatory Ballet - The Princeton Ballet School. He is also an avid collector of the autographs of "Space People" - that is to say, Astronauts, Cosmonauts and those who help them. He is currently working on a book project about the U.S. - Soviet space-race to the Moon. Doug loves to be here at Ascension because, as committed Biblical Christian, he knows our congregation is compatible not only the high priority it places on music, but in faith as well. We are blessed to have him, with all his God given talent, and his dedication here with us. Doug resides between Plainsboro and Trenton, and can be contaced through the church office. |

We our proud of our real pipe organ. Its clear, rich, ringing tones bring back beautiful memories, and raise our hearts to worship in the singing hymns. | | | ****************************************** Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Collossians 3:16)A Krisztusnak beszéde lakozzék ti bennetek gazdagon, minden bölcsességben; tanítván és intvén egymást zsoltárokkal, dícséretekkel, lelki énekekkel, hálával zengedezvén a ti szívetekben az Úrnak. ****************************************** |
