Stewardship “Christian stewardship is the practice of the Christian religion. It is neither a department of life nor a sphere of activity. It is the Christian conception of life as a whole, manifested in attitudes and actions.” W.H. Greever (1937)
Christian stewardship is a practice that some people view as absurd and strange behavior. Giving your very own time, abilities, and money to others through some organization? How absurd! However, as the above quote encompasses, for the Christian, it is his/her practice of who they are – it is the “Christian conception of life as a whole.” Stewardship IS because we know who we are and whose we are. It’s about recognizing God as Creator… Sustainer… and Redeemer. God, who created us good and right in the beginning, feeds us and loves us as we live in this world, and makes us right again and again through His forgiving grace. God is the consummate giver, offering completeness to life through unconditional grace. The little part of us that knows this grace, recognizing who we are and whose we are, is the part within us yearning to care for and give these gifts to the Lord and others; it is that part of us which lives to give in the midst of God’s gracious giving. “Giving is a demonstration of God’s grace.” (2 Corinthians 8:1)
Members of Salem Lutheran Church participate actively in the care, maintenance, and growth of God’s ministry by giving of their time, talents and financial resources. Giving is part of faithfulness. All members of Salem Lutheran Church recieve offering envelopes at the beginning of each year as a method and reminder for us to give faithfully each week. A time and talent survey is given and processed during the last two months of each year to gather information from all members about their serving preferences. Stewardship education is all encompassing for our lives, we wish to continually learn how to be better stewards of all God has give us.
