You Got SERVED!!
Well, we've mostly packed up our bags, almost everyone is asleep and the bus will be humming by 5:45 Friday morning-the trip is near an end. St. Philip's and friends had an amazing week of service, time in the ocean, and FUN! We were lucky enough to find some amazing work on the island of Galveston, Texas-working on the painting of a TALL house built in the 1900's, and the fixing up of a house on Jamaican Island-including breaking down a wall, cutting apart some pine-wait, no-PALM trees, and some great work putting new shingles on the roof! We were also blessed enough to further the work of St. Philip's great Disaster Relief Team and painted, painted, PAINTED the warehouse of Gleanings From The Harvest in Texas City. Our high point of the trip, if you ask the kids, was most likely taking part in the Wednesday distribution of food to people in the area. We were asked to try and find any work available, most likely carrying cartons of food for those who may have difficulties, and the outcome was amazing. Our 23 kids hopped into action the minute the food was handed out-making themselves available for anyone who needed it, being completely polite and helpful-never taking a break, continually looking for another opportunity to help. It was truly amazing to watch these youth step up helping others and will be a memory they may never forget.

Two trips to the ocean, at most four days of back to back painting, and about seventeen different trips to Wal-Mart...we've had a great time! Thank you so much for giving these amazing individuals the chance to see how hard of workers they are and what it means to serve others. We were truly blessed this week in Galveston, and I can't wait to see what we come up with for next year!! (Right now, the kids are discussing a two-month adventure through Canada and Alaska...grreatt)

Thank you so much and SEE YOU SATURDAY!!

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."

-Matthew 25:35-40 (paraphrase)

Go Galveston!!

Our 23 youth and adult volunteers are LOVING the Texas heat and trying our hardest to get work done as we are spending time at different houses on the island-sent by Help 4 Galveston, and preparing the food shelter Gleanings From the Harvest for storage and distribution to the community of Texas City. We are a having a great time while still learning the ropes of the area! Check out our pictures and few messages we've been able to make time to prepare for you to enjoy!! Don't forget-there's more where these came from! Join us Sunday, Aug. 30th in the St. Philip's Youth Room at 11:30 am to see a collective slideshow of our good times, along with stories (both fun and heart warming) from the kids! Hope all is well up North and we'll see you Saturday!
WEDNESDAY!!

We started out our morning distibuting food for approximately 175 people and their families at the Gleanings from the Harvest located in Texas City. It was a wonderful experience as I watched our 23 youth and adults constantly searching for the work of helping others-whether it be carrying their items, playing with the kids, or handing out food along the line-it was a blessed experience! http://www.gfthgalveston.org/Main.html
We spent another afternoon painting away!! Gleanings From the Harvest is an exceptional food shelter with the plans of creating a building where all help is available in one building. Instead of having to find paperwork in one area, then send it to another, then pick up food here...the very complicated system most often in place-GFTH has received a very large warehouse where members of the community will be able to come, sign up, and actually shop through the different items to choose what is needed and available for their income level. Gleanings is a great organization truly doing the Lord's work here in Texas-and we are so lucky to help further St. Philip's contribution after the Disaster Relief Team did such great work here last March!

The Go Galveston! group enjoyed a great night out tonight hitting the Kemah Boardwalk, about 20 minutes up the Texas coast from our church in La Marque. The kids enjoyed a nice dinner (one that didn't come from a paper bag!), crickety wooden roller coaster rides, and aquarium visits-all alongside the beautiful ocean!! It was a fun night together out and about enjoying the heat of Texas!! Yee Haw and AMEN!
Work It!!
"God saved us and called us what a holy calling, not according to our works but according to God's own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began."

Ferry Tuesday!

What Up parents of the kiddos who are currently fixing Galveston? Today was a great day we had 8 kids, Diane and our awesome bus driver Ken hit up Galveston and paint the exterior walls of a house that was built right after the 1900 hurricane which wiped out the entire city. The rest of the 15 kids and adults spent time today painting and moving things at the food shelf Gleanings from the Harvest, where our wonderful St. Philip's Disaster Relief team did work earlier this year!
After finishing our AMAZING day of work we came back to the church to have dinner that was prepared for us by one of the other volunteer groups that is staying at First Baptist-a -southern style Fettucine Alfredo-DELICIOUS! After dinner we hopped on the bus and drove to the Bolevar Pennisula of Galveston Island. (okay so maybe we didn't totally drive, more like this sweet bus-hauling ferry was involved and it was AWESOME)! On the pennisula we saw damage from the hurricane and it was cool to see how the youth reacted to that. Well its 11:18 here...and in Minnesota So G'Night! -Trina Niskala
