| The season of Lent, beginning February 22nd directs us to the center of our Christian Faith, the passion of our Lord-his suffering, crucifixion on the Cross, death on Good Friday, and resurrection on Easter. It is a penitential time, an intrusive period in the Church year. Dr. Eugene R. Fairweather has written, "Lent should be an atmosphere that surrounds us, an experience that gets into our flesh and nerves and bones, a way of life." That this holy season may find Christ's life touching and penetrating our lives is a necessary prayer of all of us. This Lenten season we will again have our Wednesday noon "SOUP &" gatherings. ASH WEDNESDAY, February 22nd, we will also offer a brief worship with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. Ash Wednesday evening at 7:00pm we will have a more formal worship with Holy Communion and the imposition if ashes. The full Lenten schedule is below. Please make every effort to involve yourself as we journey together to the Cross of Jesus Christ and then celebrate His glorious Resurrection. | Planting of the Groveland Community Garden |
Zion Lutheran Church has worked with members of the neighborhood since 2010 to plant a community garden The garden currently feeds 20-30 families, and their friends and relatives visiting from Leesburg, Mt Dora, and Orlando. We had many volunteers out helping with the garden. The soil, mulch and most plants were all funded by Lake-Sumter Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The CRA of Groveland, Zion Lutheran Church, and local individuals funded the rest. We had Thrivent members, Zion members, residents from the Trilogy community in North Groveland (particularly the Wildflowers Garden Club),the Mayor of Groveland, CRA and City Council members all working together to make this fall planting happening.

Food Boxes for Local Families |

Using funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and donated by a Thrivent member from our church, each year we are able to prepare 15-20 boxes of food to give to local families. We put pictures on the outside of the boxes of some of the activities we have done at our church. |
