Setting the alarm for 4:30 a.m. doesn't sound so great, but what follows is an adventure that one will never forget. Spring Turkey hunting, as far as I'm concerned, just can't be beat. The early walk in, with all the timbers pre-dawn sounds...barred owls with their "Who, who...who cooks for you" and their loud, laughing mating calls, bright red Cardinals telling all the forest to "Wake Up, It's another glorious day" and the furry creatures of the night retreating after a long night of hunting. Then, setting...waiting patiently...for that sound that makes the hair on your neck stand on end, your heart feel as if it could thump right out of your chest and your hands shake, not because of the cold. That sound you have waited a long, cold winter to hear again, and again and again. The thunder of the long beard, the mighty "Tom Turkey". Truly a sound worth waiting for! |
